A meeting was recently held with Sameep Singh Gumtala, Global Convener of the Fly Amritsar Initiative, an Engineer in Aerospace industry based in USA, a proud Alumni of Khalsa College, Amritsar, India (KCA) and Khalsa College Amritsar Global Alumni Association (KCAGAA) represented by Executive Member S Harpreet Singh Bhatti. Also present on the occasion were Sameep’s father & senior Alumnus of KCA, the co-founder and Patron of well-known Amritsar Vikas Manch (NGO), AVM Patron Principal Kulwant Singh Ankhi, President Hardip Singh Chahal and another KCA Alumni Simranpreet Singh (Journalist with News18 Network).
A brief discussion was held about work of FlyAmritsar Initiative, its aims, achievements, potential & measures to boost exports if perishable & non-perishable cargo along with modalities about enhancing International, domestic cargo with Punjab being Agrarian State and how to increase exports through the SGRD International Airport, Amritsar. Sardar Gumtala was on a brief visit to Sri Amritsar.
KCAGAA President Dr. Devinder Singh Chhina alongith team KCAGAA, called upon S. Sameep Singh Gumtala that being a proud Alumnae of glorious Khalsa College Amritsar you are doing great through this project for the region, along with highlighting Global Heritage of Sri Amritsar and Khalsa College, Amritsar.
Dr. Chhina applauded the tireless efforts for Amritsar Airport by Sameep Singh Gumtala & his team in an effort to bring in more International as well as Domestic flights at Amritsar International Airport.
KCAGAA shared with Gumtala about the International Cultural Exchange Programs conducted by Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) in co-ordination with Khalsa College Governing Council, the KCAGAA through Amritsar International Folk Festival and Khalsa College International Folk Festival in continuity also bringing International Delegation through SGRDJ International Airport and promoting Global Heritage of Holy city Amritsar along with projecting the legacy & glorious heritage of Khalsa College Amritsar.
Gumtala was also briefed by Association that all delegations of International Cultural Exchange Programs prefer Amritsar Airport as direct destination and mostly prefer to land at Amritsar. So there is need to push for more direct flights. KCAGAA appreciated the best efforts and push by FlyAmritsar Initiative for direct flight connections with London, Birmingham, Middle East, South East Asia including Australia and also for exploring Govt of India schemes for starting Domestic Flights for connecting Holy City Amritsar with Patna, Kolkata, and other metro cities.
On behalf of President KCAGAA, Amritsar Dr. Chhina and all esteemed team Members of KCAGAA, Harpreet Singh Bhatti presented a Khalsa College Amritsar Alumni brochure and robe of homour to Sameep Singh Gumtala curated by Senior Alumni Res. S. Bhupinder Singh Holland and released by Hony. Secy. S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina during 6th Khalsa College International Folk Festival, November, 2018.
Gumtala thanked Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina President, along with Esteemed Patrons and Hon’ble Team Members of KCAGAA for Honour. He said that though Global Alumnae of KCA are preferring Amritsar Airport but again appealed all KCAGAA Alumnae and their relatives n Diaspora to Come to Amritsar Airport and to highlight, promote it more.
Gumtala assured that he will keep advocacy work going along with entire team of FlyAmritsar Initiative & push hard for more and more International as well as domestic Flights to SGRDJI Airport Amritsar.
