In a continuous major boost to the demand for direct flights between Amritsar and Italy, the Italian based low-cost carrier, Neos Airlines, has once again started operating charter flights between between Amritsar and Milan, Italy.

The airline on August 15th 2022, operated non-stop charter flight between Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Amritsar (ATQ), while on the return leg, the airline operated it as Amritsar (ATQ)-Male (MLE)-Milan (MXP). The airline, however, operated the MLE-MXP sector on this route as scheduled service.

Neos Airlines, on September 9th 2021, had become the 3rd European carrier after British Airways and HiFly airlines to operate charter services from Amritsar Airport during the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline in late 2021, had operated a number of charter flights between Rome & Milan in Italy and Amritsar.

It is notable that, Amritsar had emerged as the largest market for Italy in India during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yes, you read that right not even Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, but Amritsar emerged as the most potential market for Italy in India.

Since August 2020, over an estimated 600 charter flights have already been operated between Amritsar and Italy, till date, while a large number of flights are still being planned in the near future. With this, Amritsar continues to remain the only city in India to be directly connected with Italy.

The Indian Low-Cost Carrier, SpiceJet is presently leading in this market, with charter operations. The airline previously even had deployed it’s wet-leased A321ceo, HiFly A330neo aircraft on these routes.

SpiceJet is currently operating these charter flights with it’s Boeing 737 Max 8 aircrafts to Rome and Milan Bergamo Airport.

Along with SpiceJet, IndiGo had also operated a significant number of charter flights between Amritsar and Italy in the late 2020 and early 2021, while Air India even rerouted it’s Delhi-Rome flight as Delhi-Amritsar-Rome in February 2021.

As per the information available, Neos Airlines will be operating non-stop Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner services between Milan Malpensa and Amritsar on every Monday, while the return leg will be on every Tuesday, via Male, Maldives, till October 25th, subject to regulatory approvals. The airline will also operating a special charter flight between Toronto and Amritsar on August 31st 2022.
