Amritsar (September 7, 2018): A long pending demand of the residents will be fulfilled with the implementation of new parking policy at the airport. From midnight, management of Shri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport has rolled out new car park policy. According to the new policy, the area opposite to terminal building will be now used only for pick and drop facility. Private vehicles will be allowed to pick and drop with free time of 10 minutes.

Parking charges for car are now revised to Rs.20 for half an hour and Rs.55 for two hours. However people parking in no parking area and overstaying in the pick and drop lane shall be subjected to fines.

In June 2018, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri had announced a new parking policy for Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport Amritsar, according to which private vehicles will not be charged fee for pick and drop.

Minister of Civil Aviation Puri said, “I am delighted to announce that a new parking policy will be implemented at Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport at the earliest. The Airport Authority of India has introduced a new policy wherein private vehicles will not be charged for picking or dropping passengers at the airports. Parking charges and slabs have also been rationalised. Tenders will be invited in the first week of July to ensure more convenience from September 2019”

A city based NGO, Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM) has welcomed implementation of the new policy that will ease the problems faced by visitors. Manmohan Singh, AVM President and a member of the Airport Advisory Committee thanked the airport authority, Ministry  of Civil aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for the new changes. He also requested visitors to help in smooth flow of vehicles by following the rules, not to block the road and disrupting free movement of vehicles.
